Αυτή η εργασία εξετάζει την ύπαρξη κοινωνικών διαχωρισμών στον αστικό χώρο της Μητροπολιτικής Περιοχής της Αθήνας,βάσει του κλάδου απασχόλησης του οικονομικά ενεργού πληθυσμού και της θέσης του στην κλίμακα της επαγγελματικής ιε-ραρχίας. Πρώτον, παρουσιάζεται η κυριαρχία της αθηναϊκής οικονομίας στην οικονομική δραστηριότητα της χώρας κατά τα τε-λευταία 60 χρόνια. Δεύτερον, ερευνώνται οι κοινωνικοί διαχωρισμοί που αναπτύχθηκαν στην περιοχή της πρωτεύουσας κατά τηνίδια περίοδο ενώ αποτυπώνεται ο κοινωνικός τύπος των απογραφικών τομέων της απογραφής του 2001. Εντοπίζοντας τους κυ-ριότερους οικονομικούς κλάδους της αθηναϊκής οικονομίας, εξετάσαμε αρχικά την δημιουργία πόλων συγκέντρωσης εταιριώνσε συγκεκριμένες περιοχές της πρωτεύουσας ενώ στην συνέχεια αναλύσαμε τον στεγαστικό διαχωρισμό βάσει του κλάδου απα-σχόλησης και της θέσης στην επαγγελματική ιεραρχίας του οικονομικά ενεργού πληθυσμού. Τα συμπεράσματά μας είναι ότι οιστεγαστικοί διαχωρισμοί στη μητροπολιτική Αθήνα συνδέονται περισσότερο με την θέση του εργαζόμενου στην κοινωνικοοι-κονομική ιεραρχία παρά με τον κλάδο στον οποίο απασχολείται. Παρόλα αυτά η ανάλυση μας ανέδειξε ιδιαίτερες συγκεντρώ-σεις, εργαζόμενων στους κλάδους δημόσιων και κοινωνικών υπηρεσιών αλλά και εργαζόμενων στον τομέα των μεταφορών, σεπεριορισμένες περιοχές της αστικού ιστού.
