Abstract:
The present notice refers to two new sites in Lesbos. A burial pithos was excavated in the forested highland of Kratigos, south of Mytilene. The dead was accompanied by a lekane and a cable amphora dated to the 5th century BC (probably in the first hall). Also, a small peninsula known as “Kephalos’ and situated in the eastern part of Ancient Antissa's gulf, on the northern coast of the island, was investigated. An EH-MH site on the edge of the area, a building of Roman date on the southern coast, as well as several Late Roman buildings on the narrow area between the penisnula and a promontory known as "Nisi’' were located. The last ones should be connected to the continuous use o f this band of land as entranceto the naval port of Antissa during the Late Antiquity
