The writer uses the work of older folklorists and draws on old archive material to offer a general review of folklore studies in Greece during the period 1907 -1947. In order to make a closer examination and as methodological use of sources as possible, he divides the period up into two subperiods, the first stretching from 1907 to 1921, which involves a general treatment of the work of Politis, who dominates the period. In his treatment of the second period. 1922 - 1947, the writer deals both with teaching of folklore (or its replacement by related courses) at the University o f Athensand with teaching and research in folklore studies at the University of Thessaloniki,which was dominated by the figure of Stilpon Kyriakides.
