Abstract:
This study offers a full treatment of the relationship between folkloreand the cinema. The writer throws light in concise fashion on the not particularly well-known trend that has developed in folklore over the past few years, that is, the study of the cinema and of film in general. As the author notes, folklore is interested not only in films of the past that present an idyllic, traditional way of life. It is also interested in all films, old and of the present day, from comedies to films of historical content and social comment. The study of such films, when examined from an anthropological point of view,yields useful conclusions regarding such matters as social organization, socioeconomic changes and the transformations undergone by Greek society over recent decades.
