This is a first report on the conclusions reached by the research initiated by Professor Georgios Thanopoulos, with the help of his students, and employing new technologies, on the old collections of folk songs, both published and unpublished. Research so far reveals that the qualitative changes that Politis imposed on a number of songs that he published from his sources 'are orthographic, vocalic and metrical’ and that one cannot confirm that there was any intention of referring the reader to archetypes of these songs. ‘Thechanges that Politis imposed do not concern the totality of the verses, or even a whole line, but rather merely individual words.’
