Abstract:
The ruins of the church of the Transfiguration dominate the top of a hill located on the northeast bank of Lake Orestiada, opposite the peninsula of Kastoria. The nave is a single- aisled triconch church with a dome and a posterior narthex at the west The informationsin the sources are poor and for that reason the research in the area was very important. Two small-scale excavations took place around the ruins which were mentioned in the sources as a monastery. The archaeological research confirmed the existence of a monastery complex. They have been excavated the towers of the entrance, buildings with an auxiliary use at the north of the catholicon and the cells at the south. The study of the excavation findings indicates the life of the monastery from the 12th century, which continues until the late post byzantine years. Further research in the area could give us more elements about the history and the date of the catholicon which could have been built later than the end o f the 9th century which is given by some scholars.
