The paper analyzes the course of research into folk art during the 20th c., carried out by Nicolaos Politis and Angeliki Hatzimichali. As an intermediate stage in this, we look at the work of Alki Kyriakidou and conclude by considering today’s holistic perspectives employed in folklore and anthropological research into popular culture, by means of reflection and attempts at interpretation, rather than description.
