Author:
Abstract:
Archaeological excavations carried out at Nea Kallikrateia,Chalkidiki, have recently revealed antiquities dated in the early Christian times. In 1999-2000 initial research was conducted during the works for the sewerage network of the village. Further excavations that followed up at three plots enriched our knowledge up to now. In 2006 it was partly revealed an early Christian basilica, namely a part of the apse and a part of the South aisle (plot No 319). In 2009 they were excavated architectural ruins dated in several periods (plot No 317). In that year it was also revealed a cemetery consisted basically of tile-covered tombs (plot No 312). Based on the masonry and other findings we can date all the above mentioned antiquities between the 4th and the 6th century AD.
