Abstract:
The article follows the development over the past hundred years of Greek folklore, which falls into three phases. Originally folklore, like history, classics and linguistics, questioned the claim that the Greek state, created in 1830, had severed bonds with its past. Besides, folklore turned its interest towards the then current state of folk culture, which was fundamentally rural, since Greece was still an agricultural country.Folklorica Contemporanea (1963) gave the entrance of folklore to urban space official status, where, of course, a large pail of the rural population had gathered, thus contributing to the creation of an unusual, urbanized modern society. With the gradual domination of globalization. Greek folklore hasstrengthened yet further its historical and social research parameters. At the same time, however, it has defended tradition and has thus reinforced resistance to the alienating pressures of globalization.
