The paper presents the path through history of diet in Greece, havingoffered the historical reasons which, in the view of the writer, have contributed to the neglect of this topic and, more generally, to the neglect of material culture by folklore in Greece. The paper rests on an almost complete factual bibliography. The author notes that there is a wider working relationship between history and folklore, which has increased over recent years regarding the study of contemporary Greek society.
