Abstract:
The paper attempts to present the image of inter-war Yugoslavia in theGreek press, and the Greek-Serbian relations of the same era through thestudy of Efimeris ton Valkanion (Journal of the Balkans), which was publishedin Thessaloniki between 1918 and 1950. It focuses on the 1930’s, a period thatrepresents an important transitional phase in the political developments ofGreece, Yugoslavia and the Balkans, and indeed of Europe as a whole. TheEfimeris ton Valkanion was one of the publications which lent its support tothe initiatives towards rapprochement between the Balkan peoples and followedan explicit friendly line towards Yugoslavia. The data extracted fromthe Efimeris have been compared with corresponding evidence from other primaryand secondary sources, the archives of the Foreign Office of the UnitedKingdom and the relevant literature.
