The author publishes a document of G. Catacazy, ambassador ofthe Russian Empire in Athens, towards the Ministry of Foreign Affairsof this country, dated in 1838. The content of this manuscript is revealingthe mentality of the diplomatic representative of the RussianEmpire. In the document, which is now kept at the Archives of the Ministryof Foreign Affairs of Russia (Moscow), G. Catacazy demandâtes to St.Petersburg the Consul General of Greece at Odysso, Mano, as a collaboratorto the Greek newspaper Athena, which is «friendly towardsthe British», «member of the opposition», «extremely liberal», and((against the monarchy».
