Vergina 1997 : the metroon

Excavations in the Sanctuary of the Mother of the Gods at Vergina concentratedon two points in 1997. i) The west side, north of the large double chamber,where a large courtyard was uncovered, together with a structure reminiscent of afurnace, though there were no related finds. Fragments of figurines were found in thesame area, including a figure of Aphrodite, ii) The small rooms on the south side ofthe Metroon, east of the large double chamber, yielded interesting groups of potteryand figurines. The latter included fragments of busts of Pan, who is closelyassociated with the cult of the Mother of the Gods.
