Abstract:
The research was concentrated in both the vaulted gangway running the upper diazoma and the trapezoid area bordered by the eastern wall of the cavea, the city-walland the arch between them. The vaulted gangway and the arch are contemporary; they were probably built in the second half of the 2nd century A.D. in order to meet the new needs. The first phase of the city-wall and the eastern retaining wall of the cavea, both built in the 4th century B.C., constitute the earliest architectural remains in the trapezoid area. The two arches were built afterwards, probably to support there taining wall. The smaller arch of the northern part is still in situ; the big arch was probably similar. The new city-wall was built after the 2nd century B.C. following the destroyed Classical wall.An open pipe was found in the vaulted gangway; it continued southwards running below the two arches. Finally, the gate and the tower where it led belong to the Byzantine wall. The theater, like many other Greek theaters, was abandoned by the end of the4th or the beginning of the 5th century A.D.
