Abstract:
5, Dryos St.The site is to the S of the table. The excavation was not completed in 1998.Fill and sparse remnants of the Late Bronze Age and Early Iron Age, followedby coherent construction phases of the 6th and 5th centuries BC, attest continuoushabitation. Particularly important for this excavation is the large storagearea with jars, which is dated to the 6th century BC. The cellar probably belongedto a private house. On the basis of the Attic pottery (black-figuresherds), the architectural remains of the 5th century reveal a change in the useof the site. The development of an organised group of dwellings probablyincluded this site. Large numbers of black-glazed sherds of the 4th century BCconfirm the phase of that period, though no architectural remains survive, as onother sites nearby.Sites in the ancient cemeteryThe sites which have been investigated are in the SE of the. ancientsettlement, S and E of the PAOK football stadium: 44-46, Malakopis St., 4,Proussis St., 42-46, Neapoleos St., and 7, Pondou St.The majority of the graves date to the Archaic period. A total of 41 graveswere located and investigated: 36 were pit graves, 4 were shallow pits with nocover, and 1 was a cist grave with a child burial.
