Abstract:
The rescue excavation on the site of the municipal workers’ housingdevelopment in Skydra, Pella prefecture, brought to light an ancient buildingmeasuring 28.50x10.50 m on a prominent site at the top of a hill in the SW partof the modern town (Fig. 1). The building survives at the level of the foundations, but the ground plan suggests that it was a temple (Figs. 4, 5; PI. 4-7). Afew finds, which come from the area of the wall foundations or were collected(PI. 1, 2, 8-12), offer evidence that the building had already been completed inthe Hellenistic period. The presence of Roman pottery and coins of the Romanand Early Christian period are indicative of interventions carried out in laterperiods, the most recent being the workers’ housing project. In accordance witha decision by the Ministry of Culture, the building will be preserved and displayedin a square in the centre of the housing development (Fig. 6).
