Abstract:
During the 1998 excavation period, a rescue excavation carried out in thearea of the Bella tombs at Vergina brought a new built tomb to light. This smalltomb is very close to the old Heuzey tomb, and is built of poros and roofed with7 large ashlars, its external dimensions being 3x4 m. At the E end, which is the“facade” of the tomb, there was an entrance closed with a timber door. Inside, the surface of the walls was divided into zones of red and white colour. The tomb had been desecrated, but the few remaining artefacts indicate thatthe deceased, probably a woman, had been accompanied by a considerablenumber of grave goods. The finds were gold pins, a gilded clay pot, and a smallgold coin of Pixodaros, Satrap of Karia. They make it possible to date themonument to the 2nd half of the 4th century, the early years of Alexander’sreign.
