Abstract:
The rescue excavations completed at the settlement of Servia in Western Macedonia under the direction of Katerina Rhomiopoulou and Cressida Ridley between 1971 and 1973, brought to light valuable information about the sequence of Neolithic and Bronze Age levels in this region. A series of ten building phases dating from c 4500-2200 BC levels revealed well preserved timber architecture, a wide range of small objects and fine pottery of MN, LN andEBA date as well as a wealth of detail about the environment and subsistence economy of this site. This paper summarises the results which are to be published by the British School at Athens in the volume: Servia I: Anglo-Hellenic Rescue Excavations1971-73 by Cressida Ridley, K. A. Wardle and Catharine Mould, (currently inpress, ISBN 0-904887-33-2).
