Abstract:
Five small scale excavations were carried out last year in the Kastoria county by the 17th Ephorate of Prehistoric and Classical Antiquities. Two of them took place in 3rd to 4th century A.D. cemeteries at the villages of Poria and Pentavryssos, both at the riverside of Haliakmon. Some barrel-vault tombs built of brick and stone, as well as several tile-covered graves, were revealed, while the largest tomb of Poria also carried a fragmentary grave insciption. A rescue dig at Nestorio partially uncovered some well preserved buildingsof the same period, while last year’s E. I. Age excavation at Dailaki, Kastoria, was also continued briefly. Another rescue excavation continued, was that of the mountaintop sanctuary of “Psalida”, near Kastoria. Some more dedicatory reliefs and statuettes were unearthed at the site of the altar, together with various small finds and pottery ranging from Prehistoric to Roman times. Despite financial restrictions, we are sure that this research will add much to our knowledge on local cults of Upper Macedonia.
