Abstract:
The systematic excavation work being conducted for the last sixteen years in the prehistoric settlements of Mandalo and Archontiko in the Prefecture of Pella has provided us with more substantive knowledge of the Late Neolithic and Early Bronze Ages in the area in question and in Macedonia more gene rally. The wealth of finds (pottery, figurines, stonework, weaving tools, etc.) yielded by the two sites has allowed us to study various aspects of the everyday lives of those who lived there, and to explore the area’s contacts with the more northerly parts of the Balkans and with the Aegean. The finds have also served as an opportunity for collaboration with experts on the exploration of matters of archaeometry, palynology and palaeogeography, etc. The first conclusions reached by collaboration of this kind are already proving to be extremely interesting.
