Rescue excavations in the community of Neromyli and Prodromos, Almopia, in 1994
Abstract:
Antiquities excavated two sites in the community of Neromyli and Prodromosin the province of Almopia, Pella prefecture. These were Goritsa Hill within the area of Neromyli (Fig. 1A; PI. 1A), the site of a Hellenistic and Late Roman settlement, and Goritsa Hill within the area of Prodromos (Fig. IB; Pi.IB), the site of an Iron Age tumulus cemetery. A number of areas in sector B (Figs. 2, 3) were explored in the settlement, one of which (I) may be dated to the Late Roman period on the basis of thefinds (PI. 4, 5) and the rest (II, III, IV) to the Hellenistic period (PI. 6, 7, 8).The cemetery on Goritsa Hill, Prodromos, comprises some 40 tumuli, which have been broached and robbed. Investigations here were limited. They produced evidence that dates the cemetery to the Early Iron Age (PI. 9), and also a type of sepulchral structure that is new for this area, with a relatively large burial area and a dromos in front (PI. 10)
