Abstract:
In October 1993, large numbers of antiquities were stolen from Karathodoreika, near Polykastro and Pondoiraklia. In June 1994, with funding fromthe municipality of Polykastro, a trial trench was dug, which brought to light23 burials from a cemetery of cist-graves and graves covered with slates and cairns. The finds included vases, various items of bronze jewellery, bracelets, fibulae, finger-rings, iron weapons, daggers, spearheads, and a very few items of gold, silver, and lead. The finds date from the 7th to the 4th c. BC. The area is known from Casson’s excavation at Tchaoushitsa in 1921. Recent inspections have located other settlements in the area
