Abstract:
As a result of the findings of the 1992 excavation (ΑΕΜΘ, 6 (1992)),which located Iron Age earth fill in the central area of the table at Arhondiko, Yannitsa, in 1993 four squares, lOmxlOm, were marked out (I-IV) and investigated in segments. The findings showed, once again, that the site was in use for a long time. Middens and remains from the Byzantine period were found in the upper layers, followed by architectural remains from the late Classical and early Hellenistic periods, including part of a building in sections A, Γ, and Δ in square II. The finds shown in Plates 4-6 are a determining factor in their dating. In section B in square I, a N-S wall was uncovered, dividing the section into an E and a W part. In both parts, large fragments of vases and other small finds were observed at a depth of 1.9-2.8 m above ground level, and two middens were located that had been dug out of the ground. Middens were also found in the SE part of square IV, the source of the phiale-shaped vessel in Fig. 3. The amphora in PI. 12 and Fig. 4 was found in section Δ in square I. Its dated to the end of the Geometric period and constitutes evidence of the earliest dating for residential remains located so far in this particular area of the table at Arhondiko, Yannitsa.
