Abstract:
During the archaeological investigation of the double table at Anhialos in1993, excavation of pit A continued on the upper table as did the exploration of an area of the lower table, where investigations the year before had located a pit full of pottery from the 5th and, particularly, the 4th c. In pit A, at a depth of about 10 m below ground level, we came upon a layer of fine sand that continued to a depth of about 12 m. Upon this sandy layer, we found transported soil containing sherds from the Late Bronze Age and the Late Neolithic, which formed the ground level of the earliest human habitation in this part of the ancient settlement, which dates to the Late Bronze Age. On the lower table, not far from the midden, we dug four pits (Γ, Δ, E,ΣΤ). All the layers here belong to the Geometric period, and this is confirmed by the characteristic shrinking of the settlement, which was reduced to the Spart of the table, which subsequently increased in height. The virtually uninhabited N part of the table was used chiefly as a burial site for refuse
