Abstract:
In 1993, work on the table in Toumba, Thessaloniki, included the excavation of the plot at 10, Dryos Street and trial sections in other plots in the area. The initial findings regarding the 10, Dryos Street excavation may besummarised as follows. During the transitional period between the Late Bronze Age and the Early Iron Age, the site was within the boundary of the settlement, which was not confined to the tell. The first layers of the table were already formed by the 7th c. BC, and the wells and beehive storerooms that have been uncovered suggest a, probably public, spatial organisation for the purposes of collecting drinking water and storage. It is worth noting that the same phase is also encountered at the top of the tell, with the same type of facilities. In the 2nd half of the 6th c. BC, the site was part of the street plan of the table, though it was 1 m higher, owing to the natural slope of the ground
