Abstract:
The rescue dig on the building plot at 90, Kassandrou Street brought to light a large section of a house of the 3rd to the early 7th c. with mosaic floors, wall paintings, and a small bathroom, together with traces of another house, contemporary with, and just to the E of, the first. After this second house was abandoned, the site was used for burials. A, probably funerary, chapel dates from the middle Byzantine period, one of its walls decorated with a fresco of three gemmed crosses with columns between them, and some inscriptions. The24 barrel-vaulted and cist graves belong to a cemetery of the 13th to the15th c. The fragments of early 14th c. frescoes with religious themes that were found in the earth fill of some of the graves come from an unknown church, in whose immediate vicinity the cemetery was situated. The church and the cemetery were in the Asomati district of the Byzantine period
