Abstract:
The archaeological work in Maroneia in 1993 includes excavation at twosectors: 1. Trial exavation at the site Ochthos, near the little harbour of Agios Charalambos, unerthed a large public building of Hellenistic period and anabbundance of pottery, both plain and black-glaze, a large quantity of roof tiles, lamps, figurines, stamped amphora handles and bronze coins, dating from the second half of the 4th till the mid-2nd century BC. 2. Investigation of a part of the classical fortification wall at Agios Athanasios,the top of Ismaros, where the Acropolis was (now this area is taken up by the air force installation). The excavation uncovered the continuation of the fortification wall and the relics of the quadrangular building mentioned by Prof. Bakalakis
