Abstract:
A brief report of the archaeological investigation of 1991 is given below. Due to the short excavational season, the investigation mainly comprised the excavation of the southern terrace, in order to unite the private houses and the workshop, discovered in 1986, and the excavated houses in the area of the fountain. Three artefacts, shedding light on various activities of the city, were found this year: a vessel related to metallurgy, a second one related to ceramic workshop and finally, an object related to the terracotta figurine production.1. A skyphos-shaped vessel with walls consisting of three layers: an outer handmade of clay, a second thinner one and an inner one with a bronze sheet. The vessel implies the existence of a workshop producing bronze artefacts, where the vessel was used for storing molten copper or for the separation of copper from the alloy.2. Relief skyphos with both sides in the shape of a face, a medusa and a satyr. The skyphos is wheel-made, while the two faces were made into a mould. It was produced in the local workshop and dates to the first half of the 2nd century, an unusual find of Macedonia in that period.3. Relief tablet with the representation of Aphrodite on a goat. Similar relief representations on stone, clay and metal are found in southern Greece and this one was probably imported from there. Stratigraphic evidence dates the tablet to the early 2nd century B.C., while the subject of the representation was really rare in that period and unique in Macedonia
