Excavation at Arcadicos of Drama in 1991 : suggestion to the approach to one excavational problem based on the postholes

The postholes comprised a characteristic category of finds at the excavation of Arcadicos in 1991.The effort to identify combinations of postholes which define the plan of the structuresis primarily based on the examination of the other evidence of the excavation: the organization of space, the ends of the floors of the rooms and the distribution of stone finds on them. The classification of the postholes on the basis of their diameter, with the assistance of Surfer programme of a personal computer, led to the concentration of the higher figures in an area that defines the ends of a room according to the evidence mentioned above. This classification combined with the observation of evidence implying support or protection led to the identification of groups of postholes with common characteristics that suggest the existence of walls and structures. The characteristics of the construction can be defined by the observation of the imprints on the wood and observations on the construction, such as the depth of the foundation of the posts and the comparison to ethnographic examples which imply light constructions
