Excavation at Mesembria of the Hebros district in 1991

Abstract:
The excavation was carried out at a part of the major city by the western fortification walls. A parallel to the wall road (90 m. long and 3-3.60 m. long) and seventeen rooms belonging to four at least complexes were excavated. The steep slope of the area led tithe construction of oblong buildings separated by narrow corridors. The levels of the floors vary significantly. The rooms communicated through another narrow room along the southern side of the complexes. The finds imply that probably these structures were also used as houses, although their plan is so different. The finds consist of objects used in everyday life: spindle-whirls, arrows, fish-hooks, coins, mainly big plain pots for storage and a few red- and black-figured Attic vases. Among the interesting finds we must notice a well, a well preserved plaster of a wall and a U-shaped structure with a tholos roof (1.20x1.30 m.) of unknown use
