Abstract:
In Grigoriou Palama St., to the W of the Galerian complex, part of a building has been uncovered which dates from somewhere between the Early Roman and the Early Christian period. Three building phases were identified, the earliest and most important giving two rooms with mosaic floors. The W room preserves a black and white mosaic floor with geometric decoration; the E room yielded part of a large panel depicting a subject connected with the cult of Dionysos. A blaze of colours and outstanding craftsmanship have gone into the representation of a dancing female figure, a Maenad, surrounded by compartments ornamented with birds and fish.
