At the area of administration of the 17th Ephorate of Prehistoric and Classical Antiquities from 2002 to 2008 a series preservation, restoration and enhancement projects, which were funded mainly from the 3rd Community Support Framework, were put to work. After finishing these projects archaeological sites became visitable, monuments were preserved and restored, museums were constructed and renovated, new exhibitions were organized and finally scientific publications and other editions aiming to the public were completed.Western Macedonia. At Kozani prefecture the Museum of Aiani began operating and the exhibition was organized in two rooms. Workshops of conservation, storage and other rooms for public use were equipped. At Kastoria prefecture the Neolithic site of Avgi was preserved and enhanced through various means. The museum of Argos Orestikon was finished and the exhibition of prefecture antiquities was organized. Finally, at Fiorina prefecture the Hellenistic cities of Fiorina and Petres were preserved and enhanced.Central Macedonia. At Pella prefecture the work of conservation and presentation of the archaeological site (work of TDPEAE) was completed. A new museum was constructed and two burial monuments were protected (philosophers’ and multi - chamber tombs). The archaeological site of Edessa was also preserved and enhanced. Besides, two studies of conservation and presentation concerning sites and monuments of Almopia province (Aloros, Konstantia), as well as the architectural study of the Edessa museum were completed. At Imathia prefecture the project of preservation and enhancement of the royal tombs at Aigai was finished. The tombs and all their finds are exhibited inside the building which was designed for their protection. Furthermore, a program of conservation and presentation of the palace at Aigai was started and a study concerning the unification of sites and monuments at Aigai was completed. At Mieza, two Macedonian tombs (Judgment and Lyson - Kallik- les tombs) were enhanced and the rest of the visitable monumental tombs were protected by new protective awning. The theater of Mieza and the Sanctuary of the Mother of the Gods at Leukopetra were preserved and restored and the school of Aristotle was enhanced. A preliminary study of presentation of the Neolithic settlement of Nea Nikomedia was made and, finally, the Archaeological Museum of Véroia was renovated and a new exhibition was organized.Our necessary concern for the next years must be the correct operation and management of the above.
