Though the evidence for Mycenaean Aitoloakarnania is abundant and covers the whole area of this region, the lack of publications makes the picture thus obtained only fragmentary.Nevertheless, the LH finds, dated from LHI/II till the end of LHIIIC/Submyce- naean period, are representative of all the components of Mycenaean culture: There exist walls from citadels, remnants of settlements and many chamber and tholos tombs. Besides, the burial customs are purely Mycenaean, the pottery, the figurines, the jewels, the seals and the metal finds are also characteristic, whereas the Ship Catalogue and the Legend attest to the strong Mycenaean element in this region as well.Out of a long MH tradition has emerged the Mycenaean civilization in the area, but its development, though slow, can be considered as the result of the convenient place of Aitoloakarnania for contacts with the North Europe and mainly with the West.
