Abstract:
During the summer period of 2005 the area to the west of the ancient theatre of Vergina and the dromos of the large Macedonian tomb with the Ionic facade near Vergina town hall were investigated. There were no noteworthy findings, apart from a few remains of walls. The excavation of the dromos of the tomb brought to light the stone-built south walls of the dromos and an enagismos. This offering to the dead comprises mainly black-glazed plates with a nipple that date to the end of the 4th c. BC (before 300 BC).Near the end of the dromos was found a midden with large quantities of Hellenistic pottery of the mid-2nd c. BC. The pottery consists of wheel-made and mould- made tableware, typical of its period, that had been used in a burial ceremony.
