Exploring the archaeological site of Vergina by geoelectrical mapping, 1984-2004
This paper describes the geophysical survey that was carried out on the archaeological site of Vergina between 1984 and 2004 and presents some of the findings. More specifically, it discusses the findings produced by geo-electrical mapping. The fieldwork was carried out piecemeal, mainly during the summer months, throughout the twenty-year period. The findings, as recorded on underground resistance charts, show linear anomalies in many cases that form rectangular shapes. Not unreasonably, these anomalies are ascribed to the probable presence of building remains at these specific points. For demonstration purposes it was preferred to present the findings in such a way as to reflect the ground plan that might have been produced if the site under investigation had previously been excavated.Other geophysical methods were also used during the investigations. Purely for reasons of space, this paper does not include the findings of these investigations.
