Abstract:
The 16th Ephorate of Prehistoric and Classical Antiquities was active in the area where the Thessaloniki subway (“metro”) is being built, overseeing test trenches for identifying the networks for public services and drilling, and undertaking excavation works at the Thessaloniki Rail Station and Sintrivani. In all, 676 graves were excavated from the ancient city’s eastern and western cemeteries, as well as fragmentary architectural remains. The excavation finds to date confirm the topographic evidence known for ancient Thessaloniki from the 16th Ephorate s earlier excavations in these areas.
