Abstract:
During the 2006 excavation season at Kastri near Polyneri and Alatopetra in the Th. Ziakas Municipality in the Grevena Prefecture investigations were confined to the area immediately to the west of the temple on the citadel of this as yet unidentified ancient city. The excavation was of very brief duration and was carried out with minimal resources. Nevertheless, it yielded very significant findings. An extensive burnt layer was uncovered in the area, which dates to the late 4th cent. BC and is connected with the temple walls, which are of contemporary date. In the Hellenistic era a small building was constructed on top of the burnt layer, though as yet there are no clear indications of its function. The movable finds from this area support the above dating. A particularly notable find is a fragment of a bronze strip with a pointillé votive inscription (late 4th cent. BC).
