The African Union : a realistic opportunity for the african continent or another institutional experiment leading to failure?

The establishment of the African Union, in the context of a turbulent political landscape of civil wars, political tensions and economic recessions that demonstrates the failure of the post-colonial state, aims at the political and economic renaissance of Africa, with the ambitious goal of reinforcing the vision of panafricanism. This article addresses the causes and the factors for the transition from the Organization of African Unity to the African Union. Additionally, it examines the institutional dimension of the newly established regional organization. The conclusion drawn is that regional co-operation seems to be the only alternative for the survival of the African continent in the new global order.
