Abstract:
Fresh archaeological data have emerged from a hitherto unknown site at 69, Plastira St. on the boundary of the municipalities of Thessaloniki and Pylaia, on the south bank of a gully opposite the Thessaloniki Ecclesiastical School. Underneath an extensive layer of roof-tiles was found a large number of vessels (lekanes, cooking pots, oinochoes, amphoras, krater-kantharoi, small skyphoi, and plates) of the 3rd century BC and a pottery kiln. This is a local (Macedonian) workshop of the Hellenistic period, which may add to what we know about the production, art, and technical tradition of pottery in the area around the Thermaic Gulf.
