Preliminaiy pollen study at the settlement of Archontiko in Gianitsa (northern Macedonia, Greece)

Abstract:
Pollen sampling in an archaeological context might not considered “wise” if wishing to obtain optimum results from a palaeoecological point o view. Nevertheless, an effort to obtain prolific samples for pollen analysis has been attempted during the excavation years of 1995 and 1996 in Archontikon (Giannitsa). Preliminary pollen analysis on paleosols of different inhabitation phases of the settlement has provided results permitting an initial paleoenvironmental reconstruction of the site during the final stage of the early Bronze Age (2300-1900 / phase B) and later on the Middle Bronze Age (1900-1700 B.C B.C./phase A).
