Abstract:
The continuing excavation at Kastri, near Polyneri, Grevena prefecture, more specifically on the acropolis of this unknown ancient area of Tymphaea with the sanctuary, confirms our original conviction regarding the importance of the site. Apart from the temple, the dimensions of which are now known (11.8x11.4 m), the 2001 excavation revealed the size and the monumentality of the large Doric W stoa at the S of the plateau of the acropolis. Numerous architectural members came to light, making it possible to reproduce the stoa. Parts of the city wall were also uncovered, together with other movable finds, coins, imported pottery, jewellery, and vessels, all of which indicate the importance of the site. The dating of the construction of the principal buildings to the end of the 4th century BC and their destruction to the mid-2nd century BC was confirmed.
