Abstract:
The Polyplatanos mound is located 24 km N of Veria and 12 km NW of Naoussa. It is a low, extensive mound covering an area of 8 ha. Excavations began in 1997. In 2000, excavations concentrated on the top of the mound, where parts of a house with a hearth had been uncovered in previous years. The architectural remains which turned up during this year’s excavation are the same as those found in earlier seasons, namely the debris of off-white floors and wattle-and-daub walls. This year’s excavation clarified the habitation phases of Polyplatanos. Phase 1 is represented by the spacious dwelling at the top of the mound, but we do not yet know very much about phase 2. Radio dating puts both phases in the mid-5th millennium BC.
