Toumba, Thessaloniki, 1999 : Excavations on the table and in the ancient cemetery

The excavations on the table in 1999, intended to investigate the various rooms in the houses and the settlement, uncovered an Archaic workshop (6th cent. BC) in the heart of the settlement (4, Elaias St.) and a large storeroom with 16 earthenware jars of the 5th cent. BC in the S of the settlement (5, Dryos St.).Excavations at various points in the ancient cemetery yielded important data to add to what we already know about the customs associated with burial offerings in the Iron Age (15, Neapoleos St.; 38-40 Kyzikou St.), the Archaic period (38-40, Kyzikou St.; 29 Ostrovou St.), and the Early Classical period at the junction of Issidorou Avdiron St. and Megakleous St. in Ano Toumba.
