Abstract:
Excavations at Vergina in 1999 produced some significant results. A notable event in June was the unearthing of a small built cist grave in the area of the Heuzey tombs. It is constructed directly against the N wall of Heuzey tomb A, which is in fact the new tomb’s S wall. It was found undesecrated, and contained a considerable number of grave goods. The burial was a cremation and the dead man’s bones had been collected in an impressive bronze kalyx krater with cast handles decorated with relief masks. The other grave goods probably include silver-plated bronze situlae, kantharoi, an oinochoe, a dinos and an iron tripod, a strainer, a kyathos, and other clay vessels. The deceased was also accompanied by his weapons. The excavational data and the type of grave goods suggest that the tomb dates to the reign of King Alexander.
