Abstract:
The end of the second millennium AD is characterized by two major human achievements: the immense development of technology and on quite a broad scale, the democratization of societies. However, both these undoubtedly positive results of “progress” are accompanied by equally negative side-effects, one of which is the destruction of cultural and artistic standards — due to the prevalence of a populist spirit - a phenomenon that is evident in the relationship between modern man and music. In the “aesthetic” field, which is of more direct interest to us, the solution cannot be imposed by any intervening forces from above or by emotional outbursts, but can be found through an attempt to intensify the development of an understanding of true aesthetic and artistic values. Such an endeavour requires a rational approach in order to correctly evaluate this phenomenon, which is the only approach that respects human dignity.
