The writer employs the books of Dimitrios Loukatos, that deal with the popular worship and religious aspects of the summer period in the Ionian islands, to examine the features of religious rites, symbolisms, and the relation between man-nature and religion. Special attention is paid to the bonds between religious expression and nature, which from antiquity onwards have always been in step with each other.
