Abstract:
The present essay deals with the close relationship between fairytale and cinema. Fairytales have taken cinematic form since the 1920s. Today, the presence of fairytales in contemporary movies rests mainly on the consumerist ideology served by cinema and TV as entertainment companies use movies, in order to make money out of the children’s dreams, by promoting their own commercial messages. Undoubtedly, there is always a correspondence among the patterns and the plots of the fairytales and the plots of the movies and there are movies which reach beyond the commercial and recapture the lost world of childhood by means of an imaginary world. They thus offer serious speculation on the problems that children, and, indeed, the whole society, confront today.
