A bronze cast handle from Dreros was bought at the end of the last century and is now kept in the National Archaeological Museum of Athens (inv. no. X. 7771, see fi gs. 1 - 2 ). It is of a peculiar shape and cannot be attributed to any specific kind of vase. The figure of a winged man, represented in low relief, displays interesting features characteristic of Cretan art. The wings are worn over the body as in other similar figures from Crete (see AAA II ( 1969), p. 216 ) and this leads to the conclusion that the daemon represented here could be Ikaros. The style of the figure points to a date towards the end of the first quarter of the 6th cent. B. C. The picture of Cretan art of this period is not quite clear, and the problems of shape and style presented by this handle prove once more the originality of the Cretan workshop.
