Abstract:
On the remote, forgotten island of Agathonisi, which lies at the north-east edge of the Dodecanese group, the few archaeological surface surveys carried out in recent years have yielded a significant number of archaeological sites and finds that date from the prehistoric period down to medieval times.Amongst the most important monuments on the island are the Hellenistic fort located at Kastraki on the Maistros bay at the north end of the island, and the imposing monumental complex, probably of the Early Byzantine period, at Tholoi near the bay of the same name in the east of the island.
