Abstract:
Among the finds from the nearly 1,400 burials (most of them looted) of the Thermi (Sedes) cemetery, in the vicinity of Thessaloniki, exist only a few glass objects. Six core-formed glass vessels are discussed here. They are dated from the middle of the 6th through to the 3rd c. BC and they are the only pre-Roman glass vessels found in the cemetery up to date. The group consists of two amphorisks (types 1:1, 11:2),two oinochoe (type I:2A), one aryballos (type 1:2) and two alabastra (types 11:5, 11:4-7). The objects are described, discussed and compared to similar finds from other, mainly northern Greek excavations. Appendixed is an interim report of the conservator Maria Papathanassiou who undertook a study on the deterioration of the surface of one of the alabastra.
